Why is the on-road price higher than the showroom price?
Because it adds road tax + registration (RTO), third-party or comprehensive insurance, and delivery/handling charges. Together they add roughly 10-12% to the ex-showroom price in most cities.
Which states give free road tax for EV scooters?
Delhi, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Puducherry currently exempt or fully waive road tax and registration for EVs. This saves ₹10,000-15,000 on a ₹1.2 lakh scooter.
Is the subsidy included in the on-road price?
Not always. In Delhi, the dealer adjusts the subsidy upfront. In other states, you apply online and receive the amount in your bank account after registration, so the showroom price may show the full on-road price.
How do I reduce my on-road price?
Buy in a state with road tax exemption, claim the state subsidy within the claim window, choose a third-party insurance for the first year, and ask the dealer to waive handling fees.
