EV Scooter Subsidy in Delhi 2026 — Full Savings Guide

Updated: 12 August 2026 · Verify on the Delhi EV portal (delhielectricvehicles)

Right now, Delhi offers the strongest electric scooter benefits of any state in India, and it is not even close. Under the Delhi EV Policy 2026, which started on 1 July 2026, buyers get a purchase subsidy of ₹10,000 per kWh of battery capacity in Year 1, a ₹10,000 scrapping bonus, and complete exemption from road tax and registration fees. Even after the central subsidy ended on 31 July 2026, a typical scooter buyer in the capital can still save more than ₹40,000 on the on-road price.

This page tells you exactly what Delhi gives you today, what a scooter really costs on the road after every benefit, how to apply for the subsidy, and the mistakes that cause people to lose it. The figures come from the Delhi EV portal and the 1 July 2026 notification, and were last verified on 1 August 2026.

The headline: Delhi gives ₹10,000 per kWh of battery (up to ₹30,000) in Year 1, plus ₹10,000 for scrapping an old two-wheeler, and road tax and registration are completely free. Total savings easily cross ₹40,000, but only if you apply within 30 days of getting your RC.

What Delhi Gives You Today

The Delhi EV Policy 2026 works in three yearly phases, and the subsidy rate steps down every year. So buying earlier clearly pays: Year 1 buyers get the full ₹10,000 per kWh, while Year 3 buyers get less than a third of that. Here is the complete benefit structure:

BenefitAmountCondition
Purchase subsidy — Year 1 (Jul 2026 – Jun 2027)₹10,000 per kWh, cap ₹30,000Ex-showroom price ₹2.25 lakh or less; empanelled model
Purchase subsidy — Year 2 (Jul 2027 – Jun 2028)₹6,600 per kWh, cap ₹20,000Same conditions
Purchase subsidy — Year 3 (Jul 2028 – Jun 2029)₹3,300 per kWh, cap ₹10,000Same conditions
Scrapping bonus₹10,000Scrap a BS-IV or older Delhi two-wheeler; buy the EV within 6 months of the Certificate of Deposit
Road tax100% exemptAll electric vehicles (cars up to ₹30 lakh)
Registration fee100% exempt
Central subsidy note: The PM E-DRIVE demand incentive for electric two-wheelers (₹2,500 per kWh, up to ₹5,000) ended on 31 July 2026. Everything above is pure Delhi state benefit, so it will not shrink.

Example: What You Really Pay

Take a realistic mid-range scooter with a 3 kWh battery priced at ₹1,20,000 ex-showroom. In Year 1 the subsidy is 3 × ₹10,000 = ₹30,000, which lands exactly at the cap. The full calculation looks like this:

Line itemAmount
Ex-showroom price₹1,20,000
Purchase subsidy (3 kWh × ₹10,000)− ₹30,000
Scrapping bonus (if you scrap an old 2W)− ₹10,000
Road taxExempt (normally ≈ ₹9,600)
Registration feeExempt
First-year insurance+ ₹3,500
Delivery and handling+ ₹1,500
Final on-road price≈ ₹85,000

Without any policy, the same scooter would cost about ₹1,34,600 on the road in Delhi, including roughly 8% road tax. So the total saving here is about ₹49,600. Even a buyer who does not scrap an old vehicle still saves about ₹39,600. This is why Delhi is, right now, the single best state in India to buy an electric scooter.

The savings only grow on bigger batteries. A 4 kWh scooter at ₹1.35 lakh gets the same ₹30,000 cap, while a 2 kWh scooter at ₹90,000 gets only ₹20,000. So between two models of similar price, the one with the bigger battery usually wins on subsidy.

How to Apply

The claim process is fully online, but the deadline is strict: you must apply within 30 days of registration. These are the exact steps:

  1. Buy an empanelled model with an ex-showroom price of ₹2.25 lakh or less. Ask the dealer to show you the model on the portal list before you pay any money.
  2. Register the scooter in Delhi through the usual Vahan process and wait for the RC to be generated.
  3. Within 30 days of the RC date, log in to the Delhi EV portal and submit your subsidy claim online.
  4. Upload your Aadhaar, the invoice, the RC, and your bank account details for the direct benefit transfer.
  5. For the scrapping bonus: first scrap your old vehicle at an authorised facility, get the Certificate of Deposit, then buy the new EV within 6 months.
Claim window warning: The 30-day window is never extended. If you miss it, the subsidy is simply lost, so set a reminder the day your RC is generated.

Which Scooter Fits the ₹2.25 Lakh Cap

Almost every popular scooter qualifies for the Delhi cap. The Ola S1 X (2 and 3 kWh), the Ather 450X and Rizta, the TVS iQube, the Bajaj Chetak 3501, and the Hero Vida V2 Plus all sit comfortably below ₹2.25 lakh ex-showroom. Since you get ₹10,000 per extra kWh up to the ₹30,000 cap, choosing a 3–4 kWh battery usually extracts the maximum possible subsidy.

Entry-level buyers should also plan their timing carefully. Because the rates step down every year, someone who waits until July 2027 for a better deal on the same scooter loses roughly ₹6,000 to ₹10,000 in subsidy, and a Year 3 buyer loses even more. If your budget allows, buying in the current Year 1 window is almost always the cheaper long-term choice. Delhi dealers are also well stocked with eligible models and the city's charging network is expanding fast, so there is rarely any reason to delay once the model you want is available at your preferred showroom.
